About Arlington International Racecourse Hotel
Arlington International Racecourse began Thoroughbred racing on October 13, 1927, hosting more than 20,000 fans. It went on to survive World War II and the Great Depression and later thriving during the Golden Era of Racing. However, in early July 31, 1985, a fire tragedy razed down the facility, testing its new ownership and a pledge to continue presenting championship racing.
Nevertheless, it still hosted races and events like the fifth Million, using tents and temporary bleachers. In November 1987, construction of the new Grandstand commenced and ended in a record 19 months. It reopened on June 28, 1989, under the leadership of Duchossois. In 2000, the facility merged with Churchill Downs Inc., which is listed on the stock exchange.
