Earlier this month, a spokesperson for Betsson announced that the Swedish company would be exiting the B2C market in the US by the end of September 2024. This will result in the discontinuation of the Betsafe app available for gamblers from Colorado. If you have an active account on the platform, you’ll have to prepare for its official closure on September 30. Stay tuned to learn more important details.
Betsson’s US Market Journey
Betsson entered the US market back in 2020 when it signed a 10-year partnership with Dostal Alley Casino in Colorado. Following a few pushbacks, the Betsafe app was officially launched in the state in March 2023. Despite its promising start, the platform faced significant challenges in gaining substantial market share against more established US operators such as DraftKings and BetMGM.
Following September 6, Betsafe is no longer accepting new registrations on the platform. If you’re among the current account holders, there are a few things you should know and do. First, you won’t be able to wager on the app after September 16. You also have until September 27 to request a withdrawal of any funds you might have into your account.
To make things easier and avoid any unnecessary hassle, we suggest you do that as soon as possible. The final closure of all Betsafe app accounts in Colorado is scheduled for September 30. Considering that Betsson is an internationally recognized gambling brand with an excellent reputation, we don’t expect you to face any issues.
What’s Next for Betsson and Gamblers from Colorado
Betsson may be leaving the B2C market in the US, but its B2B market efforts will continue to be a main priority.
As communicated initially, our B2C operations in Colorado served primarily to display our sportsbook for B2B purposes and to provide us with valuable first-hand insights into the dynamics of the US online sports betting market.
– said the company’s spokesperson in the official statement.
We’ll keep you posted on how that develops in the future. However, this is not the only sports betting brand that’s exited the country this year. Betway and ClutchBet shared the same fate a few months back. The SuperBook and Betfred sportsbooks also decided to exit the US just recently.
It’s become apparent that the betting industry is extremely competitive, and it’s difficult for new sportsbooks to compete with their more experienced rivals. Colorado gamblers still have access to multiple top-quality platforms such as DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars. Of course, this also doesn’t mean that there won’t be any new additions to the market right now.
We expect to see other sportsbook apps being licensed in Colorado and across the US. Make sure to keep an eye on our website to find the latest news from the industry. Our experts remain dedicated to providing you with the most important information related to sports betting, casino gambling, laws and regulations, and more.
