In September 2024, Boyd Gaming finalized its acquisition of Resorts Digital in New Jersey. This is a significant step towards the company’s goal of expanding its online gambling activities. Resorts Digital features a portfolio of several platforms, including popular ones such as ResortsCasino.com and MoheganSunCasino.com, as well as an unused sports betting skin.
We are confident that this transaction will propel Resorts Digital’s proven success over the past decade to a new level through the scale of Boyd Interactive and its market-leading platform,
President of Resorts, Mark Giannantonio, said in a statement for the AP.
Strategic Growth in Online Gambling
Boyd Gaming is one of the most successful gambling companies in the US. Founded in 1975, it operates in over 10 states across the country. Its latest acquisition targets the New Jersey market in particular. According to official reports, during the first 8 months of 2024, Resorts Digital has generated over $573 million in revenue.
In comparison, Resort Casino’s physical operations have reported a revenue of $109 million. This is a rather clear sign of gamblers’ increased preference for online casinos over land-based ones. It also further highlights the smart move made by Boyd Gaming in its attempt to boost its iGaming market share and, ultimately, capitalize on it.
That said, it’s important to note that Resorts Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, is not part of the acquisition. The establishment remains under the ownership of the New York-based real estate executive Morris Bailey and his business partner Joseph Jerome. Boyd Gaming owns quite a few gambling resorts in states like Louisiana, Nevada, and Mississippi. You can find a detailed list in the table below:
