The PGA Championship has become the first men’s golf major to secure an official sports betting partnership, teaming up with ESPN BET, the online sportsbook operated by PENN Entertainment. The groundbreaking deal means ESPN BET will become the “Official Sports Betting Sponsor” of the prestigious tournament until at least 2026.

Partnership Aims to Enhance Spectator Experience

According to the PGA, the new partnership aims to enhance the spectator experience at the PGA Championship, with ESPN BET set to have a significant presence both on-site and during the broadcast of the event. Jeff Price, PGA of America Chief Commercial Officer, told media he was extremely happy with the new collaboration, saying they were very proud to join together with PENN Entertainment and “immerse” ESPN BET into the spectator experience offered by the PGA Championship. He went on to say:

The added onsite presence of ESPN BET as well as broadcast and content offerings will provide spectators with exciting new ways to enjoy and engage with all of the action during the PGA Championship.

Price went on to state that the partnership will create a host of exclusive benefits for both spectators and ESPN BET customers. For example, fans attending the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, from May 16-19, will have the opportunity to access the ESPN BET Members Lounge.

Located adjacent to the 13th hole, this exclusive area will offer a premium hospitality experience, including covered seating with views of the green, a drinks service, special ESPN BET offers, and a VR simulator of the 13th hole.

To gain entry to the lounge, spectators must have registered an ESPN BET online sportsbook account, adding an extra incentive for golf enthusiasts to sign up with the operator.

The partnership also extends to the television coverage of the PGA Championship. During the four rounds of the tournament, ESPN’s broadcasts will feature odds and betting tips. ESPN BET will also offer special PGA Championship betting promotions for its members throughout the event.

A Milestone for Golf and Sports Betting

The PGA Championship’s partnership with ESPN BET marks a pretty important milestone in the world of golf and sports betting. As the first men’s golf major to embrace an official betting sponsor, the PGA has taken a significant step forward – and if it proves to be a successful one, it’s likely that we’ll see other golf majors following suit.

With the growing popularity of sports betting across the United States, this collaboration is likely to set a precedent for other golf tournaments and sports events to follow. During PGA Championship at the famous Valhalla Golf Club, all eyes will be on how this landmark partnership unfolds and its impact on the future of sports betting in golf.

Of course, the deal is also a big win for ESPN BET. The fast-growing online sportsbook is already licensed in all the states that are set to host the PGA Championship until 2026 – and they’ll be expecting significant windfalls from the move, too.
