There have been exciting times in Las Vegas recently, with last year’s inaugural Grand Prix taking place in November, and another major event due to take place in February. The National Football League (NFL) is set to host its most anticipated event, Super Bowl LVIII, in Las Vegas, and this marks a historic period for the NFL and for Las Vegas.
Las Vegas is known for its vibrant casino scene and sports betting market, but its lack of an NFL team meant games weren’t played there. However, the formation of the Las Vegas Raiders has allowed the Super Bowl to be held at Allegiant Stadium, which is the home ground of the Raiders.
Safeguarding Players and Game Integrity
The NFL is implementing strict measures to ensure player safety and maintain the integrity of the Super Bowl, which will feature the San Francisco 49ers and last season’s champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. In a statement addressed to the players and the NFL Players Association, the league outlined its gambling policy, particularly for the Super Bowl period.
The policy allows players from non-participating teams in the Super Bowl to visit casinos and engage in gambling activities, except for sports betting. However, players from the two competing teams in the Super Bowl are banned from all forms of gambling, including slots and table games. This also applies to all team personnel involved in the Super Bowl, according to recent reports.
The NFL letter stated:
While in Las Vegas, players participating in the Super Bowl are prohibited from engaging in any form of gambling, including casino games and betting on any sport.
The NFL’s gambling policy forbids all players, coaches, and team executives from betting on NFL games. This includes betting on any sports while in NFL or team facilities, or while functioning in their professional capacities. However, outside team environments and during the off-season, they are allowed to wager on non-NFL sports.
Anticipation for a Record-Breaking Super Bowl
The decision to host the Super Bowl in Nevada has resulted in high expectations among bookies for record-breaking betting action in February. The previous record betting handle in Nevada for a Super Bowl was set during Super Bowl LVI, which took place in 2022. During this event, there was $180 million wagered on the game.
With Las Vegas being a hugely popular destination among gamblers, many will flock here for the event, and betting levels are expected to rocket.
Recent reports claim that the Grand Prix in November had a big impact on Las Vegas’ impressive figures at the end of last year, and the same could happen as a result of the Super Bowl for this year’s figures.
The historic Super Bowl being held in Las Vegas marks a huge shift in the NFL’s approach to sports betting.
Both sports betting operators in the area and sports fans will be looking forward to this historic period in the world of sports and sports betting. It will also benefit casino resorts and other businesses in the area, as the event will bring in many more visitors.
