With the football season due to kick off in a matter of weeks, many people across the country will be eager to place bets on their favorite teams. In fact, according to the results of a recent study, NFL fans are planning to wager more this year.

As one of the major sports events of the sporting calendar, the football season always attracts a huge number of bettors. Football is the most popular sport for betting in the country, with the NFL taking the lead.

The 2024 season is set to start on September 5th, and it could be a very busy time for sportsbook operators based on data from the recent Optimove study.

Betting on More NFL Games

The study by Optimove is called ‘Insights 2024-25 Consumer Reports on NFL Wagering Intentions’, and the results spell good news for the nation’s sportsbook operators.

According to the data collected as part of the study, 71 percent of NFL bettors plan to bet on more NFL games in the 2024 season, which is up from 63 percent for the 2023 season.

In addition, it is thought that the number of bettors that place several wagers each week on NFL games will increase to 43 percent this year from 37 percent last year.

The study also looked at how much people were planning to bet on each wager, and there were three primary groups. This included those betting $11-$50, those placing bets between $512-$100, and people betting $101-$499. A small minority were planning to bet $1-$5 or $500+.

Optimove noted,

Almost three in ten NFL bettors (32%) wager from $11 to $50 on a single bet. At either extreme of a bell-shaped curve of wagers is $1 to $5 at 5% of NFL gamblers and 5% who wager more than $500 on a single bet.

The majority of those polled by the research firm said that they would place bets online, via their computers or smart devices. More than 80 percent plan to wager via digital means this season.

A Busy Time for Sportsbooks Across the Country

Based on the data collected from the recent study, sportsbooks have a very busy time ahead of them in the coming weeks. The football season provides sportsbook operators with several months of frenzied activity, as sports fans flock to place bets on their favorite teams.

This is good news for sportsbooks, as they tend to experience a dramatic slowdown during the summer months following March Madness. The football season helps to recoup the losses from the slower summer period, and this year should be particularly lucrative for sportsbooks if the data from the Optimove study is accurate.

The two sportsbook giants in the United States, DraftKings and FanDuel, already monopolize the sports betting market. However, officials involved in the study said that smaller sportsbooks could benefit this coming football season.

According to the results of a poll, close to a quarter of sports bettors said that they had no preference with regard to the sportsbook they used to place their bets. This could be good news for smaller operators.
